Development of a beeswax supply chain

Late March, OLVEA Burkina Faso signed a partnership to promote beekeeping with ICCO (Dutch NGO) and USAID Mali (US Agency for International Development). OLVEA Burkina Faso and ICCO are working together since 2010 in order to develop sustainable supply chains that benefit local producers.

This partnership aims to stimulate entrepreneurship of the women producers in Mali by providing them a secure market and by training them to the production of a new raw material: the beeswax, honey coproduct. Over a period of 2 years, the contract foresees a production of 20 tons of beeswax.

This supply chain will diversify the income of 3,000 women producers (already producing Shea) but also increase pollination, a major environmental issue of this century. In the mean time, a study will be conducted on the benefits of this pollination for the Shea production.
